Blue Labs is a series of drop-in workshops/laboratories/studio sessions led by Diana Crum. Open to all, sessions will start with opportunities to wake up your physical range and strength. The majority of class will be dedicated to improvisational exploration, based on somatics and imagery. The series is intended for individuals interested in practicing movement and/or creative research alongside others. All disciplines and experience levels are welcome.

Sessions will start with a warm-up. You can join my warm-up or do your own thing. Then we’ll do some improvisations based on somatics and imagery. It can be an opportunity to pursue your own research inside the frame of a class or group session. Depending on what happens and who shows up, I may or may not play director towards the end of the session.

Blue Labs are part of a larger artistic project, called The Blue Studies. I am using the color blue as a research topic through which to look at how abstract, expressive forms become meaningful. The project aim is to create a small, focused network of artists dialoguing in words and with their creative work. Hopefully, the topic of blue will be specific enough to help focus us and abstract enough to allow room for everyone’s interests. Additionally, I want The Blue Studies to be an open model, one in which members of the public – most importantly strangers – can come and go, as fellow researchers.
