Chez Bushwick Presents is a nine-part performance series held at CPR and at Chez Bushwick. This platform supports artists in many capacities throughout the different steps of the creative process. This event features work by Chez Bushwick Artists-in-Residence Tara Aisha Willis, Doug LeCours, Anthony Rosado, and Gabrielle Revlock.

Tara Aisha Willis

Named after the mixed-race madwoman in Jane Eyre’s attic, “Bertha’s” layered architecture of familiar song structure and broken remnant builds a density of present-tense and strangely historical sensation. Intimately engaging with race and gender-charged recordings and recollected emotional states, we perform degrees of withholding: publicly shaping our private, somatic experiences becomes a reminder of what remains intriguingly and discomfortingly unknown.

Doug LeCours

“Pleasure Palace” is a study in escapist fantasy, somatic leisure, and loneliness. This solo performance experiment draws a parallel between the experience of taking in pornographic imagery and stock images of tropical resorts, placing the queer male body in a digital imaginary somewhere in between.

Anthony Rosado

“Testourmonials” is a dance theatre performance that uses lip syncing and movement to tell unified stories of oppression and revolutionary resistance, to an audience of predominantly white, non NYC native, gentrifying residents in the “new” Williamsburg.

Gabrielle Revlock

A literary duet choreographed by Gabrielle Revlock and performed by Mei Yamanaka and Gabrielle Revlock. Using Tolstoy’s War and Peace as source material, this dance is dense with evocative imagery, emotions, shifting relationships and seemingly endless dramatic arcs and falls.
