Chez Bushwick Presents is a nine-part performance series held at CPR and at Chez Bushwick. This platform supports artists in many capacities throughout the different steps of the creative process. This event features work by Chez Bushwick Artists-in-Residence Lisa Fagan, Karolina Kraczkowska, Johnnie Mercer, and Kate Watson-Wallas.

Lisa Fagan Dance Problems

WormPlay is a piece about worms. In the end you find out everyone was maybe a worm and in the end all the worms die, or they get really really big.

Karolina Kraczkowska

I navigate beyond the categories through a symbiotic assemblage. I marry the spirit of a witch, a female rapper with my own voice. I step away from the standard definitions and images of the human to enter into the logic of the thing that feels – newly constructed hybryd identity.

Johnnie ‘Cruise’ Mercer/TheREDproject

An accumulation of questions dealing with self, perspective, and the external forces at play, “Hell is my sanctuary” cynically ties the concept of escape to the unwarranted sensation of damnation. Confronted with numerous uncanny truths, the artist involved are forced to relinquish their notions of self while in trance, eventually coming face to face with their human need to be at peace.

Kate Watson-Wallas/anonymous bodies

Kate Watson-Wallace creates a new durational performance installation that uses strategies of pleasure, the erotic, ritual and ecstatic experience, A meditation on loss, desire and labor, the work functions as a transformative space, a container for conjuring trauma-ghosts, dress up, confessionals, boredom, and future-play. This work features live musical accompaniment and sound design by Xenia Rubinos (ANTI Records). This is an excerpt.
