Women & Performance, a journal of feminist theory, is committed to expanding the boundaries of scholarship to include experimental and artist driven work. We invite the NYU Performance Studies program and the New York experimental performance community to come together for the second annual “back to school” fall mixer—an exciting evening of live performances, dialogue, music and mingling that considers dually theory and practice.

Featuring a lineup of new performance experiments, As If You Me brings together three solo acts by Morgan Bassichis, DonChristian Jones, and Sacha Yanow that utilize music to investigate what it means to be in the world, of the world, and to question a self amidst times of possibility and critique. Through situational and textual humor, speculative characters, the tempo of song and the act of painting, these three artists explore vignettes for Feminist, Queer, Black and Other identities. As If You Me ponders difference in its understanding as a performative stake but also with a populist slight of hand that might guide life today.

Along with the featured performances, the Sunday evening mixer includes a continuous reception, Women & Performance reading area, a gallery installation by DonChristian Jones and music curated by Neal Medlyn.

Morgan Bassichis, 4:30pm

Sacha Yanow, 5:30pm

DonChristian Jones, 6:30pm

This event is a part of CPR Presents: New Voice in Live Performance. A core program of CPR’s presenting series, NViLP showcases emerging voices in live performance and promotes awareness and appreciation of contemporary experimental work.
