We invite the New York experimental performance community to come together for the third annual “back to school” fall mixer— Persona – an exciting evening of live performances, movement, poetry, and mingling that will highlight the dual political urgencies of practice and theory. Persona brings together Joss Lake, Mariana Valencia and Kiyan Williams as each explores the fragility of law and the hardship of rightful living in these weary times. Through an exploration of varied mediums, each performance will address the capacities and limits of juridical subjectivity as it confronts the continued fight for legal recognition in an increasingly hostile political environment. In questioning the im/possibility of rights through personal narratives, fiction, embodied experiences, movement and sound, these performances offer us a brief respite from the continuous demand of legible forms of personhood as matters of life and death.

In a time when the current political moment is seeing rights and laws being undermined, bent and overturned as people of color, immigrants, and queer, trans, and gender non-conforming folks are facing blatant violence, Women & Performance: a journal of feminist theory is committed to providing a meaningful platform for scholars and artists who are committed to addressing such injustices. We invite our communities to join us for an evening of collective, critical celebration in these times.

Women & Performance is the producer of the event, the curator of the event is Yarden Stern with Christina Yang.
