The exhibition features eleven stunning black and white photographs of choreographers from around the globe taken over the last two years. Subjects include Trajal Harrell and Sarah Michelson, who are based in New York; the French artists, Gisèle Vienne, Alban Richard, Christian Rizzo with Taiwan born I-Fang Lin, and Laurent Chétouane, who is based in Berlin; the collaborative team, Delgado Fuchs, comprised of Marco Delgado from Spain and Nadine Fuchs from Switzerland; and Yasmeen Godder from Israel, Ivo Dimchev from Bulgaria, Takao Kawaguchi from Japan, and Saša Asentić from Serbia.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Peggy Jarrell Kaplan has been photographing choreographers from the international dance community for more than two decades. She has exhibited her portraits in international festivals in Europe, Canada, South America, and throughout the United States. In January 2009, she had a solo show, Japanese Mood: Portraits of Contemporary Choreographers, at the Nippon Gallery, organized by The Japan Foundation and sponsored by The Consulate General of Japan in New York. Her portraits of Pina Bausch and her dancers have been exhibited in conjunction with their performances, and she was included in the 2004 Pina Bausch Festival. Her work is in the permanent collections of The Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
