Curtain Call Portraits of Choreographers

For her third exhibition at CPR, Peggy Jarrell Kaplan will show photographs of eleven performing artists from around the world who were photographed in a photography studio setting when they were in New York.
Steven Cohen and David Wampach (both were presented at CPR), Nacera Belaza, Emmanuelle Vo-Dinh, Alain Buffard, Raimund Hoghe, and Olivier Dubois were part of the 2009 Crossing the Line FIAF Fall Festival. WenChung Lin from Taiwan performed at the Japan Society Showcase in 2010. Toshiki Okada's play Enjoy is performed in translation at 59e59 Theater through May 11. Hiroshi Koike, whose work was shown at BAM in 2007, incorporates a drawing created during the session. Cristina Maura from Brazil recreates a memorable moment from her performance at Danspace in 2007.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Peggy Jarrell Kaplan has been photographing choreographers from the international dance community for more than two decades. She has exhibited her portraits in international festivals in Europe, Canada, South America, and throughout the United States. In January 2009, she had a solo show, Japanese Mood: Portraits of Contemporary Choreographers, at the Nippon Gallery, organized by The Japan Foundation and sponsored by The Consulate General of Japan in New York. Her portraits of Pina Bausch and her dancers have been exhibited in conjunction with their performances, and she was included in the 2004 Pina Bausch Festival. Her work is in the permanent collections of The Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. More examples of her work can be seen on www.feldmangallery.com (jump to artist).
