Not Bad! Dance Company presentsThe Magic of Daily Life. Inspired by Gaston Bachelard's The Poetics of Space, this performance explores the spaces of home, both practical and imagined. Journeying through a metaphorical house and beyond, the dancers move through everyday spaces, changing seasons, and the passage of time, exploring memory, relationships, and belonging.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Not Bad! Dance Company is a group of recreational adult ballet dancers who crossed paths at Peridance in an open-level class. The dancers come from a variety of backgrounds, but have found a “why” through ballet. The dancers became a tight-knit community and envisioned performances that highlighted their development in ballet technique, artistry, and creative expression.

With their premiere performance in July 2024 at Ailey Studios, Not Bad! Dance Company has since produced shows at The Joyce Theatre’s New York Center for Creativity & Dance and City Center, incorporating classical and contemporary ballet under the direction of Julia K. Gleich. This current performance comes at a time that commemorates the two-year anniversary of the company’s emergence into the public performing arts arena.

CREDITS

Julia K. Gleich has led Not Bad! Dance Company through three public performances, with this current performance being its fourth. Julia is a choreographer, founder and artistic director of Gleich Dances and co-founder of Norte Maar for Collaborative Projects in the Arts, curator of CounterPointe, an annual production based in Brooklyn, NYC that presents collaborations between women artists and choreographers to create an interdisciplinary performance surrounding the use of pointework, writer about dance, ballet pedagogy and ballet technique, teacher of higher education and is on faculty as an instructor at Peridance.

Through her classes at Peridance and in her work with Not Bad! Dance Company, Julia has provided the opportunity for adult dancers of all levels of experience and ability to immerse themselves in dance, allowing them to explore movement through their own choices and fostering an appreciation for how life in the classroom, studio, or stage translates to real-life applications.

The company is profoundly thankful to Julia for her dedication, expertise, and radiance. Her support of the dancer’s endeavors has made all the difference in the exploration of their individuality, confidence, and fostering bonds that go beyond the confines of the studio.
