Installed in CPR’s Storefront Gallery, and created by 2022 Artist-in-Residence Doménica García with their collaborator Damariz Damken, Trenzadas is a memory scape that depicts the connection between geographical spaces, the body, and identity. Through nostalgic imagery, hair, dirt, and movement, Trenzadas explores the ways in which identities can overlap. This multi-sensory live installation incorporates large-scale sculpture, video, and performance to immerse the audience in a surreal space, inviting self-reflection.

The Opening and Live Performance on Saturday, April 9 will feature a live, durational performance within the installation in the Storefront Gallery, and additional films and photographs will be on view throughout the space. Visitors may come at any time during the opening, but please note that capacity will be limited in the Storefront Gallery.

The gallery hours on Sunday, April 10 will offer a viewing of the installation in the Storefront Gallery.

Trenzadas is supported, in part, by an Emergency Grant from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, and SoMad Gallery.

Sunday Salon is an extension of CPR’s Artist-in-Residence (AiR) Program, and provides a platform for AiRs to share their current practice with the larger CPR and NYC performance community. Sunday Salon may take many forms, including presentations of live work, artist talks, and presentations of research, materials, and ephemera.

Important note about visiting CPR:
CPR requires all visitors, artists, and staff to provide documentation of
full vaccination against Covid-19 as well as a vaccine booster (if eligible), along with a photo ID, to enter CPR. For more information about booster eligibility, please visit the CDC's website. Masks must also be worn at all times inside CPR.
